Votes to hire, fire, promote or discipline employees

The School Board must discuss matters related to "human resources" during closed session.  Thus, the details of the discussions related to hiring, firing, promoting or disciplining an employee are kept confidential. However, many people do not know that the record of the VOTES on the decision to hire, fire, promote or discipline must be made available to the public within 72 hours.

See the Attorney General's Opinion 129-97 (1997).

  2. If this was discussed in closed session, where is the confidentiality? How would a student know these details?

  3. Before any fault is placed on the reading teacher, you might want to check out the facts. You will find that your kids may be repeating a rumor and not stating a truth in this situation. I would hate to base my opinion on this matter on any unsubstantiated information.

  4. I have worked at Pioneer for many years and know all the teachers in the building. I can tell you with 100% certainty that no teachers have been disciplined for looking at porn. This is the first I've heard of it.

  7. Their information is listed on this site under the tab "Contact School Board Members."

  8. I am a retired teacher from the ISD. In 2003, a former administrator from the ISD told me that Dr. Hinson called him and ordered him to fire a certain employee. The administrator asked for what reason. Dr. Hinson told him, "Find a reason, I want him out of here." The employee was fired. Obviously, the Board vote on this matter was not published. Dr. Hinson has run a dictatorship since he was hired by the ISD and is not accountable to anyone, not even the Board of Ed.
