Elementary School Principals (Corrected) (Updated 5/28)

As requested, here is a list with the comings and goings of the elementary school principals.  (Though admittedly - it may be incomplete.  Very little information on district website.  Please post corrections in the comments.)  It would be interesting to know who does and does not live in the District - this might give a better picture about potential turnover.  Most of the "attention" has been on the secondary level.

However, the principal is a "big" person at an elementary school.  These schools are smaller and most students know their principal.  The principal probably knows most of the students by name.  Having unnecessary turnover at this level is problematic - kids need stability.

  2. Between all elementary, middle, and high school principals leaving, what percent live in district, and what percent do not?

  3. What percent of principals for next year will use an ISD address, but actually live elsewhere? Or have multiple addresses (ISD = cheap rent)?

  4. Melissa Carver from Lone Jack is going to Luff. Apparently, Lone Jack is thrilled to be rid of her.

  5. Some students commented that they can't even imagine Dumas as a principal. I've heard similar comments about Playter at Bingham. Is the district putting unqualified folks in charge simply because they meet the residency requirement?

    1. The teachers I have spoke to at Bingham speak very highly of Playter. I have worked with him in a different capacity for several year and have found him to be top notch.

  6. I see some names on this list who are wonderful people, but are completely unprepared to go in as new administrators....waaaay out of their league. But I guess there aren't enough new, qualified applicants who are willing to meet the residency requirement.

  7. Anonymous pip-sters judging the skills and readiness of others to become principals? Maybe the residency should apply to teachers so house cleaning can really begin.

    1. For the record, there are teachers using this forum who have been marked "exceeds expectations" on evals, as well as teachers who have hosted student teachers. The anonymity is simply to protect our jobs because we have seen administration take action against those who speak out against Central Office and the School Board, even in the last 2 weeks. Saying the residency requirement should apply to teachers is an insult to our current administrators who are looking at losing their jobs even though they're completely invested in their staff and students.

    2. Seems to be that you're the one pre-judging people with no basis. We are anonymous because we know the Central Office retaliates against anyone who questions them, or dares to criticize their policies. It's been happening for years and is still standard CO procedure. Involuntary transfers with no reason given, charges of insubordination and written reprimands in teacher's files just for asking why something is being done. What's your reason for remaining anonymous? At least we speak on specifics and people we know firsthand, not like you; bashing groups of people without a clue of whom or what you're talking about.

  8. I wonder how many will be retaliated against for asking a lot of questions and standing up to hero at a meeting last week. He was so unprepared he cancelled the other meetings that day. I do believe we are getting a lot of unqualified people. Not to mention they. Will attend a training seminar taught by yours truly hinson and herl, I'm sure they will teach them to be their puppets and do exactly as they want, whether its right or wrong. Forget that a student may need suspeneded as stated in policy, don't suspend worry about your attendance number. And the no tolerance bullying that's a joke within this district

    1. Based on your grammar, we already have lots of unqualified people in the district.

  9. Wow. I feel as if we are doing the same things our students do and bash/bully each other, when in reality we are all a part of this district and we all have the same common goals. Who are we to judge those that have been "mistreated" and call them unqualified educators when in fact they were never given a chance to truly teach, or coach for that matter, for fear of losing their jobs. This district has made it okay for administration to "push" their staff members out and that taking a job of lesser or even no pay makes it desirable to leave.

  10. If an administrator believes a teacher should be pushed, pulled, shoved, etc. out of our district (with due process), then more power to him/her! I don't want bad teachers around my children (physically, mentally, and/or emotionally). Again - due process is important here. Oh - and I wish these unfit teacher luck in their new, lower paying jobs - welcome to real life.

  11. Well guess what I don't work in the district. I am a parent

  12. But what about your spouse or a relative? Your comments and attitude seem a bit overboard for a concerned parent? But if it is true, shouldn't you be concerned that the morale and enthusiasm, if not quality, of the teachers at your children's school is being negatively affected by the administration's recent decisions? Even a teacher who went through ISD schools as a student, who couldn't wait to teach here, who loves his school, who is considered a good teacher, whose kids go to ISD schools, and who is considered a team player, even I feel under siege, and sad for the loss of pride l once had for this district, epecially, when I see colleagues with reasonable questions or requests treated unprofessionally.

  13. Principal at Southern is now leaving after one year

  14. Brett Playter is well liked by staff at Bingham. He is more compassionate, caring, and reasonable than previous head principal.
What about all the middle and high school shuffling of assistant principals??
We are losing great administrators to raytown, fort Osage lees summit liberty and north Kansas city.
