A Missed Story

We don't claim to be journalists - but we are curious why the Examiner would not have covered the accident at Bridger Middle School back on May 18, 2013.  We have no information than what is presented in the media coverage.  Again - just curious why the Examiner wouldn't cover or follow up on this.  (Or was the story only in the print edition???)

Here's the link to the story on KMBC:  STORY
Even the raunchy Tony's KC blog mentioned it:  STORY

The dinosaur media need to figure out their purpose - and that purpose needs to be more than just republishing press releases.

  1. When was the last time the Examiner did a little investigative reporting on our school district? It seems to me there are a lot of good questions/leads raised by this blog - is anyone at the Examiner paying attention? Maybe you could do your jobs and even ask BETTER QUESTIONS?!?!

  2. Every employee in the ISD is held accoutable for their performance, except the superintendent. Shouldn't the superintendent be held accountable to the parents and taxpayers of the ISD? There should be a regular forum in the Examiner for the superintendent to answer questions and address concerns from the parents and taxpayers. The Examiner should be screening this website for stories that contain real journelism.

  3. I've contacted the Examiner on a few occasions because I felt that community members not involved in education should know what's going on in the school district. I received a very prompt response thanking me for the information and that they would be looking into it. No action was ever taken. Huge surprise . . .

  4. Nancy Lewis and Jason Dial were at that building within minutes of the accident trying to come up with the most appropriate story to tell parents. Surprisingly, the statement they released was fairly accurate. If it hadn't been for a ton of staff members overhearing their conversation, I guarantee the statement would have been different. The nurses office and main office and hallway were jam-packed with kids bleeding and crying and teachers running around trying to check on kids and call parents. A few kids were taken out on stretchers or in wheelchairs, several kids had head injuries, several students were vomiting or dry-heaving from concussions, a couple went into shock and were convulsing and two kids left in ambulances. Nancy Lewis, in the middle of the mayhem said, "At least there aren't any news channels here." Not once, when extra personnel would have been helpful, did she help with anything. Sat in a chair in the nurses office the entire time and did nothing . . . well, except for revel over the fact that it wasn't going to make the evening news. True story. . .

    1. "Come up with the most appropriate story........."? It shouldn't be a surprise that telling the truth wasn't Lewis Dial's first instinct.
